2016 found me wanting to venture to Africa once again. Not just for business but to fullfil a childhood ambition of seeing large animals in the wild. The opportunity around in early 2016 when I encountered a Kenyan man who was lingering around the gemstone dealing area in Silom Bangkok.
I did go to buy rough gems, and to see evidence of mining which the Kenyan contact claimed to be partaking in. Its a complicated story which I will never forget. I ended up spend most of my time in the Northern area around Lake Tukana, the Voi green garnet mining area and Nairobi.
All did not go incredibly well, but it was an interesting experience which I will tick off my “things to do” list.
